Grigio da Barberino di val d'Elsa, the forefather of winemakers' generations by the Grigia Griccioli family, was born in A.D. 1345.
Members and descendants of his family served in the highest offices of the Florence Repubblic sfrom the XIVth century, and they moved in Siena in 1720.
Stefano di Grigio and Orlando di Stefano di Grigio became Priories of the Florence Lordship.
Griccioli's historical estates are today gathered nearby Siena: Montechiaro, Monteriggioni and Castiglion Ghinibaldi.

The Montechiaro estate is a XVIIIth century villa nestled in picturesque, quaint village with medieval origins.
Located just 10km from Siena, the estate boasts stunning views of the city center from its grounds. Spanning 160 Ha of land, it includes 12 Ha of vineyards and 2000 surrounding olive trees.
